Voluntary agreements may be an alternative for implementing measures under the Ecodesign Directive.

The European Commission is likely to endorse an industry agreement for complex set-top boxes. It would be the first voluntary agreement on the ecodesign of products.

Four Voluntary Agreements, proposed in 2009, have been discussed under the Ecodesign Directive:

• Complex set top boxes (lot 18)
• Imaging equipment (lot 4)
• Machine tools (ENTR lot 5)
• Medical Imaging Equipment (no preparatory study or lot number)

Draft guidelines for Voluntary Agreements (or Self -regulatory initiatives) were discussed in Consultation Forum the 26 March 2010.
