The adoption of ecodesign and labelling requirements for boilers are delayed. Revised working documents were submitted in March 2011 and are under consultation until 20 May 2011.

The scope of this lot includes self-standing boilers. Technologies covered are fossil-fuel boilers, heat pumps and micro cogeneration up to electrical capacity of 50W. This includes combination boilers providing heat for heating sanitary water.

The draft ecodesign requirements would be introduced gradually one, three and five years after entry into force of the regulation. The standards vary according to different boiler types.

Modifications suggested compared to the working documents from 2009 include:

• Energy efficiency levels are increased by 11 percentage points.
• The requirements address "self-standing" products, but not combinations of boilers with other parts.
• A separate "low-temperature heat pump" is suggested. Ecodesign requirements for such boilers are increased by 25 percentage points.

Other standards cover noise from heat pumps, nitrogen oxide emissions and product information requirements.

The proposed labels for boilers will initially include the energy classes A+ to G. In order to meet the A+ standard, boilers will be required to have some form of renewable energy input.
