Lot 19, part 2: Directional lighting: luminaires, reflector lamps and LEDs

Ecodesign requirements and energy labelling for directional lamps, light emitting diode lamps and halogen lighting converters were discussed at Consultation 5 July 2011. Updated proposals are now undergoing Interservice Consultation.

This lot is the second part of the so-called domestic lighting ecodesign requirements. When this part of the EuP regulation has been passed, the EuP lighting regulation portfolio will be complete. Simply speaking, the proposed requirements will cover everything that is related to the efficacy of directional lighting: luminaires, reflector lamps and LEDs.

This package is sometimes called domestic lighting part two, since it originally covered reflector lamps and was part of the domestic lighting lot. It has since been extended to cover luminaire efficiency requirements, which originally was part of the office lighting lot (Lot 8–9). However, it is yet not clear whether luminaires will be regulated in the same implementing measure as reflector lamps and LEDs.

A  document suggests two options to cover additional aspects of the lighting system; one to  improve the optical efficiency of the luminaires and one that targets the entire lighting system. The Commission has issued a written consultation on this working documents (see comments below).

For requirements on incandescent lamps, halogen lamps and compact fluorescent lamps see Lot 19 part 1.
