 The Association for the Conservation of Energy (ACE) exists to reduce overall energy demand to ensure a secure and sustainable energy future. It does this through lobbying, campaigning and carrying out research to achieve sensible and consistent policy, legislation and targets; by raising a positive awareness of energy conservation; and by encouraging increased investment in all appropriate energy saving measures.  It is a not-for-profit company established in 1981, funded through a restricted membership of some 20 corporate organisations, and supported by our network across stakeholders in industry, public service, environmental and other NGOs and individuals. The research is independently funded and focuses on UK and wider European energy policy.  ACE wishes to recruit a full-time Researcher to join its research team. Starting salary is £28,152 per annum.                 <description> The Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) offers a 3 to 6 month paid internship at its office located in Brussels. The internship provides a great opportunity to gain valuable work experience in the area of energy policies for buildings in Europe. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to be part of a small but dynamic team as well as the chance to interact with various stakeholders at EU and Member State level.  Tasks: The intern will closely work with the BPIE team and will be directly involved in at least one of its main activities. S/he will mainly assist in structuring and organising a large set of EU27 data and work together with our international colleagues for the creation of an online tool. The aim of this project is to ensure that national specific data on their building stock is available for all European countries, enabling better policy design, policy implementation and monitoring. The main responsibilities will include managing and homogenising data and communicating relevant information to both internal and external partners. S/he will also support the analysis of other on-going projects.  Requirements: The ideal candidate will possess the following academic qualifications and personal attributes: 
 
 university degree-level education in engineering, economics, physics or other technical fields; 
 ability to deal with a large amount of data; 
 ability to manage various tasks; 
 good analytical skills; 
 ability to work well in a small team as well as independently; 
 fluency in English (required); 
 knowledge and interest in energy efficiency policies in the EU; 
 excellent writing and oral communication skills.

                <description> Energy Efficiency Assessment in Buildings, policies and performances - 2012-IPR-F-30-000-00167 
 Position: Among the EU priority actions and policy measures for improving energy efficiency and meeting the 2020 energy saving target many aim at improving the energy efficiency of existing and new buildings and of building equipment and systems. 
 In the job the following scientific and technical tasks will be performed: 
 
 assessment of Member States Policies for improving buildings; 
 analysis of the current building stock and carry out the assessment of the energy efficiency and energy saving potential (in different sector and type of buidings); 
 contribute to the definition of nearly zero energy efficiency and to the strategies to achieve it; 
 investigation of the financial mechanisms to foster energy efficiency retrofits in buildings, including ESCOs; 
 technical analysis for specific products and building components in the frame of the Eco-Design Directive. 
 
 Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. or a minimum of 5 years of research experience after the first degree giving access to doctoral studies in end-use energy efficiency policies analysis and evaluation or energy efficiency in buildings. An engineering, economics or policy analysis backgrouns is desirable. 
 Indicative Duration: 36 months

                <description>  The Faculty of sciences invites applicants for a Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor position on multi-disciplinary aspects related to Energy Efficiency. The main domains of research and teaching that need to be considered in the context of this new Chair include the technological implications related to the efficiency of energy systems, energy policies, means of implementation of new energy strategies, and a move towards a low-energy consumption society. The successful applicant is expected to have a solid scientific/technical background and conduct research in his/her primary domain of expertise while simultaneously setting up the necessary networks both within the University of Geneva and beyond, in order to address the numerous cross-cutting issues that include science and technology, economics, law, and behavioral sciences. Development of an ambitious research program covering both fundamental and applied aspects and including the supervision of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, will be facilitated by reliable and generous funding from national and local funding bodies, including seed funding of the Geneva Utilities Board (“Services Industriels de Genève” or SIG, an autonomous public authority whose role is to supply the Canton of Geneva with energy from different sources) through a dedicated endowment of the Chair.     The Professor will be attached to the unit of the Faculty of sciences more adapted to his/her scientific expertise and at the same time he/she will be housed within the inter-faculty Institute for Environmental Sciences (ISE,   http://www.unige.ch/environnement  ) that is active in the construction a number of cross-disciplinary networks at the local, national and international levels, in domains such as climatic change and impacts, energy, surface waters, and urban ecology and sustainability for example. In addition, the Institute hosts the interdisciplinary Master in Environmental Sciences where energy issues form part of the curriculum to which the candidate will contribute. The new Professor is expected to closely interact with the existing research groups on energy issues at the ISE.     The University of Geneva encourages women to apply for all positions.
