Abstract
Commercial buildings are continuously changing and evolving to meet the needs of their
users. The structure, operation, and use of buildings of the past differ from today. Commercial
buildings in the next several decades will continue to evolve to meet these changing needs. This
paper, based on a study commissioned by the Department of Energy, will examine the ways in
which commercial buildings are expected to change.
