Assessing the Implementation of Household Appliance Efficiency Standards in ChinaLiu Fuzhong Xu Dongsheng & Wan Chunhui, China Household Electric Appliances Assoc. KeywordsAbstractChina began to formulate its first energy efficiency standards for appliances in the mid-1980s. By the 1990s, several major standards had been updated, including those for refrigerators and air conditioners. Yet implementation of the refrigerator and air conditioner standards has not been evaluated until now. This research included surveys of manufacturers, consumers, retailers, and implementation agencies in seven Chinese cities in different regions of the country. We found that the standards are being met by most products sold but that the standards could be strengthened further. Improvements are recommended in the following areas:
