Energy efficiency in buildings

Tony Birtles, Building Research Establishment, UK

Abstract

This work is concerned with encouraging widespread take up of energy efficiency measures by building professionals, owners, operators and users across all building sectors, under the Best Practice programme.

There is an increasing recognition that energy efficiency offers one of the best options for combating global warming, improving economic performance, and in some countries reducing dependency on fuel imports. However there are market barriers, and for the market to work effectively it is necessary to ensure that decision makers and their advisers are adequately informed.
