22 Sep 10 – Europe must provide leadership in energy efficiency
Europe must provide leadership in energy efficiency. This is the message of eceee, Europe’s largest membership-based NGO solely focused on energy efficiency, when it today presented its views on the forthcoming EU Energy Efficiency Action Plan.
02 Jul 10 – “Energy efficiency first approach” is needed in the Energy Strategy for Europe 2011–2020
eceee welcomes the flagship initiative to promote a “Resource-efficient Europe” outlined in consultation document for en energy strategy for Europe. However, real innovation for a sustainable energy policy must be built on an energy efficiency first foundation. Without this, achieving a future low-carbon energy demand is likely to prove costly with negative effects for poor households and EU competitiveness alike.
25 Mar 10 – eceee comments on a voluntary agreement for imaging equipment
The proposal of 19 February has some improvements compared to the first proposal, but is still not sufficient to satisfy the requirements for a solid and reliable voluntary agreement as a replacement for regulation.25 Mar 10 – Comments on proposed eco-design regulation for fans 125W-500kW
eceee welcomes the proposal for eco-design requirements for fans. However, we cannot support the proposed requirements, which are too weak to achieve the potential savings of 2 TWh linked to this measure.02 Mar 10 – Proposed TV label does not reflect the rapid market development
eceee welcomes the revised proposal for TV label requirements, but notes that the current proposal fails to fully reflect the rapid market developments of TV energy efficiency. Requirements for class A should be more stringent and the label should contain level A+ already when it is introduced.22 Jan 10 – Eco-design requirements for non-professional displays: Comments from eceee on the amended proposal
eceee welcomes the proposal to make monitors compliant with higher Energy Star specifications earlier than previously proposed, and that the scope has been extended to screens beyond 30 inches. However, we regret that energy labelling requirements are not introduced at this stage, given the trend for computer displays and TVs to converge into the same products. 22 Jan 10 – Eco-design requirements for computers: Comments from eceee to the revised proposal
eceee welcomes that requirements at the Energy Star 5.0 levels are proposed to be introduced directly at an earlier stage and that servers are now included in the scope. eceee appreciates the initiative of the European Machine Tool Industries interest organisation CECIMO to propose a so-called self-regulatory initiative (SRI) well ahead of any results from the preparatory study. However, CECIMO’s proposals must be integrated with the process of the preparatory study to find solutions to many of the problems involved in regulating a group of products as complex as machine tools.
17 Nov 09 – eceee's comments on the self-regulatory initiative (SRI) for medical imaging equipment
In the light of relatively low aggregate energy consumption of medical imaging equipment, and the importance to safeguard the primary function of these products, eceee welcomes the self-regulatory initiative as a good intention to contribute to energy efficient product development.08 Oct 09 – Eco-design proposals for computers and monitors could be more ambitious
eceee welcomes the proposed eco-design requirements for computers as well as the proposal for computer displays. Both lack ambition, however, and risk to have very little practical effect on the market. The proposed requirements for computer displays also have an insufficient scope. eceee further suggests that computer displays should be included in the European energy labelling scheme.08 Oct 09 – "Weak voluntary agreement no substitute for eco-design requirements"
eceee today presented its views on the two voluntary agreements on complex set top boxes and imaging equipment, to be discussed in the eco-design consultation forum. Whereas the proposed voluntary agreement for complex set to boxes may become successful, the proposal on imaging equipment is unacceptable.01 Sep 09 – Beyond energy efficiency

eceee welcomes the proposal published by the European Commission on 13 November 2008 which lays out a framework for the long-term improvement in the energy performance of buildings, the sector with high untapped potential for energy efficiency improvements. eceee also welcomes amendments provided by the European Parliament, in its vote on 23 April 2009.19 Jun 08 – Labelling position
In a letter to the European Commission, eceee expresses support for the
current A–G scale as opposed to a numerical scale. The numerical scale has
been proposed by stakeholders in the Commission's working group on a
possible redesign of the energy label.
18 Jun 08 – Motors, Fans, Pumps and Circulators
eceee welcomes the proposed eco-design requirements for motors, fans, circulators, and water pumps. In general we support that the regulations take the form of implementing measures and we approve of the staged approach where applicable.18 Apr 08 – General Lighting
eceee welcomes the proposed eco-design requirements for general lighting equipment, primarily intended for domestic use. eceee strongly supports the second option outlined by the Commission. This option would allow only CFLs and the most efficient halogen lamps as direct replacements for incandescents (or better technologies).21 Mar 08 – Proposed eco-design requirements for boilers and water heaters: eceee comments
We welcome the Commission’s intention to introduce higher energy efficiency performance through the Eco-design Directive and are impressed by the detailed and thorough analysis undertaken by the consultants for Lot 1 and Lot 2. While we fully support the Commission’s desires to improve energy security and lower carbon dioxide emissions from boilers and electric water heaters, we do not entirely agree with their current proposed procedures to achieve this.
17 Feb 08 – eceee’s comments on the proposed ecodesign requirements for external power supplies
eceee welcomes the proposed ecodesign requirements for external power supplies. In particular we believe the most important issue is ensuring a swift as possible transition to the stricter (stage 2) proposals.15 Feb 08 – eceee's comments on the proposed ecodesign requirements for simple set top boxes
eceee welcomes the proposed Implementing Measures for simple set-top boxes. We think the approach with staged requirements is good. However, introduction of the first set of requirements is urgent.06 Feb 08 – eceee comments on the consultation document on the revision of the Energy Labelling Directive 92/75/EC
eceee is strongly in favour of keeping this valuable instrument. The Labelling Directive has strong merits and a full use of its present potential can soon deliver significant energy and carbon dioxide savings. The main asset of the EU energy label is its mandatory lay-out (especially the A–G scale, the coloured arrows), the display of the label at point of sale, and the simple message it gives.
30 Jan 08 – Proposed eco-design requirements for fluorescent lighting products and office lighting: eceee comments
General comment: We support the work to develop basic and generic criteria, which would eventually cover all lighting products (as presented at the Consultation Forum 18 December). This should also form the basis for revising the energy labels covering lighting products. In our view, criteria, definitions, test standards developed for the EuP Implementing Measures must be harmonised with criteria applied under the labelling Directive. We can only stress the urgency of seeing this work completed.12 Jan 06 – Doing More With Less
