Online labelling

A regulation on Labelling of energy-related products on the internet entered into force in June 2014.

According to the Energy Labelling Directive, the information specified on the label should be displayed or provided to the potential end-user. This also applies where products are sold or hired through the Internet.

The online market is rapidly growing and online information is increasingly used by end-users. One priority is to level the online and offline playing field so that information about energy labels will reach the end-user regardless of the type of purchase.

Scope and requirements

The adopted horizontal regulation for online energy labelling applies to all products covered by labelling measures under the Directive. Excemptions are auction sites and second-hand products.

The regulation introduces requirements for suppliers to supply the energy class, label and fiche to retailers electronically and can be found here.
