eceee and Springer cooperate on new energy efficiency journal

(13 Aug 08) Energy Efficiency, the first scientific journal ever dedicated solely to energy efficiency, is now available in print. The publisher Springer offers free access to the online edition until the end of 2008. Through an exclusive agreement with Springer, eceee will be able to offer free online access to all eceee members from 2009.

“A journal solely dedicated to energy efficiency is very timely and has long been awaited,” said Nils Borg, the Executive Director of the European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (eceee), a non-profit NGO. “Energy has indeed moved high up on the policy agenda, and this journal will help the energy efficiency community build its case for a sound policy through a steady flow of evidence-based papers.”

eceee arranges a Summer Study every two years where peer-reviewed papers are presented and discussed in a very informal atmosphere. The first two issues of Energy Efficiency will feature several papers from the 2007 Summer Study. These papers have gone through an additional review process.

“We see the journal as a great complement to our summer studies. Previously there was no European forum where peer-reviewed articles on energy efficiency could be presented between our summer studies. Energy Efficiency fits that need nicely, and we are impressed with what we have seen so far,” Mr Borg said.

The journal Energy Efficiency presents wide-ranging aspects of energy efficiency in the residential, tertiary, industrial and transport sectors. Coverage includes numerous topics and disciplines including energy efficiency policies at local, regional, national and international levels. The journal publishes original papers, brief communications, review articles, news and editorials.

“We are a truly membership-based NGO with companies and individuals paying a membership fee. We are happy to be able to offer this very valuable service to our members,” Mr Borg concluded and added: “We know that many of our members will be contributors to the journal. And this is exactly in line with our mission, to be an expert NGO and resource base for energy efficiency policy and technology.”

Springer (www.springer.com) is the second-largest publisher of journals in the science, technology, and medicine (STM) sector and the largest publisher of STM books. It publishes on behalf of more than 300 academic associations and professional societies. Springer is part of Springer Science+Business Media, one of the world’s leading suppliers of scientific and specialist literature. The group publishes over 1 700 journals and more than 5 500 new books a year, as well as the largest STM eBook Collection worldwide.

eceee (www.eceee.org) is a non-profit, membership-based European NGO. The goal of eceee is to stimulate energy efficiency through information exchange and co-operation. eceee provides an information service through its web site and e-mail newsletter, arranges workshops and conferences, and takes an active role in the European policy making process.
