Corporate giants join together for renewable energy alliance

(Climate Action, 29 Mar 2019) Hundreds of corporate companies have joined together for a renewable energy alliance.

Hundreds of corporate companies have joined together for a renewable energy alliance.

The Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance (REBA) is a community of energy buyers who are accelerating the zero-carbon future and greening the grid for all.

REBA was first set up as a NGO-driven initiative in 2014, with environmental corporations like WWF supporting the cause. Today, it is transforming into a business-led association with corporate giants such as Facebook, Apple, Walmart and Google teaming up to increase the exposure of renewables in 2019.

The new goal for 2019 is to provide 60 gigawatts of new renewable energy by 2025 in the United States and more internationally. They are also aiming to scale up from hundreds of corporate buyers to thousands.

Kevin Hagen, Vice President Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) Strategy at Iron Mountain, said: “REBA is one of the most innovative and collaborative groups of peers, colleagues, and friends I've been a part of—and it’s directly helping us break barriers to finding and executing renewable energy solutions.”

REBA recognises the urgent action needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to keep on track with future climate targets.
