Market Surveillance

Market surveillance is the tool to enable the verification of the compliance of products covered by the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Directives.

The features of specific products related to these legislations, both concerning energy labels and ecodesign requirements, are issued by respective manufacturers in a form of a self-declaration, and displayed by the retailers at the points of sales. Market surveillance helps consumers to verify that the performance of different products live up to the requirements and declared labels.

A functioning market surveillance is important to ensure that products placed on the EU common market meets all applicable laws. Ecodesign and energy Labelling requirements are expected to save a lot of energy, however this assumes that the regulations are followed by all manufacturers and importers.
