2nd EU Energy Policy Summit – What developments for EU Energy Policy in the wake of "COP21"

Start/Stop Date:
23 Feb 2016
Business Bridge Europe, European Business Summit with the participation of the EU Institutions and in cooperation with the key industries
Palais d'Egmont, Brussels, Belgium
Focus Areas:
European energy market's integration and its efficiency
Type of Event:

The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21), which will be held in December 2015 in Paris, represents a historical moment: It aims to set up a legally binding agreement for all participating countries, including for the European Union. Although all decisions taken so far by the European Union to organise its energy market, under its “2030 Climate and Energy Framework”, go in the direction of the commitments expected in Paris - with the Union having largely paved the UN way - the EU is henceforth developing its own comprehensive energy policy and implementing its ambitious Energy Union project in this new international context.

This 2nd edition of the Energy Policy Summit, to be held at high political and corporate level in Brussels, will therefore be an excellent opportunity:

  • to assess  the implementation and impact of the legal and technical tools adopted by the EU in recent years aimed to improve the European energy market’s integration and its efficiency,
  • to debate how the EU should continue to develop and deepen its policies and initiatives in the energy field while ensuring their optimal consistency with the fight against climate change, as well as with business competitiveness, industry, trade and foreign relations constraints.

In this challenging context, there are no shortages of topics to discuss: the new energy market design, the reinforcement of energy security, the consumers’ role, the increasing share of renewable energy, the energy efficiency and savings, safe and low-carbon energy generation, regional cooperation, transparency and governance, internal electricity market design, resilient gas market, funding of new energy generation and network infrastructures, improvement of research and innovation developments, etc.

This 2nd edition, specifically organised after the COP21 in Paris, will again bring together representatives of national and European institutions, authorities, industry, research centres, civil society and media, for public discussion and debate between the main high level political and industrial decision-makers and all the participants.
