32nd AIVC Conference and 1st TightVent Conference

Start/Stop Date:
12–13 Oct 2011
The International Network on Ventilation and Energy Performance (INIVE) on behalf of the Air Infiltration and Ventilation Centre (AIVC) and TightVent Europe
Hotel Crowne Plaza, Brussels, Belgium
Focus Areas:
Energy efficiency
Type of Event:

Since 1980, the annual AIVC conferences have been the meeting point for presenting and discussing major developments and results regarding infiltration and ventilation in buildings. AIVC contributes to the programme development, selection of speakers and dissemination of the results. Proceedings of recent conferences are available on www.aivc.org.

The TIGHTVENT « Building and Ductwork Airtightness Platform », which was launched January 1, 2011, aims at facilitating exchanges and progress on building and ductwork airtightness issues, including the organization of conferences, workshops, webinars, forums, etc.

Conference concept

The conference will for most of the time consist of 2 parallel tracks:

  • One track will focus on airtightness related issues;
  • The other track on ventilation in general.
  • The conference will consist of a mixture of:
  • Well-prepared workshops with structured presentations around a specific topic;
  • Presentations on invitation;
  • Presentations from call for papers.

The joint conference ’32nd AIVC Conference‘ and ’1st TIGHTVENT Conference’ aims to focus on Optimal Airtightness Performance.

Adequate ventilation as well as good envelope and ductwork airtightness represent a specific challenge for new or renovated nearly zero-energy buildings. Alone, they can represent over 50% of a building's total space heating (or cooling) needs, and their share often increases with increasing energy performance.

Therefore, energy efficient ventilation—i.e., ventilation allowing good indoor air quality and comfort while minimizing energy use—is of the outmost importance. The aim of the conference is thus to present new research, development, application, and market implementation results to improve simultaneously the overall building ventilation and its energy performance, whereby there is a specific focus on airtightness issues.

Topics of the conference
Contributions are invited in the areas of research, development, application and market implementation of ventilation and infiltration.

At present, we have already the confirmation of 7 workshops / topical sessions:
1. Setting up of a quality framework for airtightness assessment
2. Development and applications of air leakage databases
3. Philosophy for building airtightness requirements
4. How tight and insulated ducts should be?
5. Avoiding common problems related to design, operation and maintenance of HVAC systems (facilitated by the Healthvent project)
6. Ventilation in schools
7. Night ventilation for passive cooling

About AIVC and TightVent Europe
– The AIVC activities are supported by several countries. See www.aivc.org for more info.
– The TightVent Europe activities are sponsored by European Climate Foundation, BPIE, EURIMA, Lindab, Soudal, Tremco illbruck and Wienerberger. See www.inive.org.

English will be the official language. No translation is foreseen.

The workshop fee is 484 € (VAT included). This fee includes participation to the workshop, documentation, the walking dinner on Wednesday evening, the lunches and coffee breaks of the 2 conference days.

Participants should enrol by returning the registration form available on the AIVC website and pay the registration fee before October 1st, 2011.
