About the conference

On the 11th of December 2019, the European Commission presented The European Green Deal – a roadmap for making the EU's economy sustainable by turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities across all policy areas and making the transition just and inclusive for all. Becoming the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050 is the greatest challenge and opportunity of our times.

Accelerating investments into sustainable energy and climate adaptation is crucial to keep the promise allowing to ensure a climate-neutral Europe in the long-term and to prepare our cities and regions for the current and future impacts of climate change.

The event:

The Energy Efficiency Finance Market Place events (EEFMP) were originally organised by the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises with the objectives to offer concrete capacity building and allow for a transfer and replication of innovative and tested models to finance sustainable energy, through in-depth presentations by successful projects funded under Intelligent Energy Europe, H2020 Energy Efficiency and ELENA (managed by the EIB).

The Energy Efficiency Finance Market Place has been a cornerstone of the Sustainable Energy Investment Forum initiative.
In more recent years, the concept has evolved: in 2018 the Energy Efficiency Finance Market Place was organised back to back with the Covenant of Mayors Ceremony, in concertation with the Directorate General for Energy and the Directorate General for Climate Action, becoming the Covenant of Mayors Investment Forum - Energy Efficiency Finance Market Place. The organisation of the event took advantage of those synergies and included a climate adaptation component, featuring also projects from the LIFE programme.

In 2019, the event continued to highlight successful projects from H2020 and LIFE programmes, but reached further out to the European programme landscape and featured projects from the European Energy Efficiency Fund (managed by Deutsche Bank), the European Innovation Partnership – Smart Cities and Communities together with some national and local initiatives.
In 2019, the event attracted over 550 participants from more than 35 countries, representing local and regional authorities, national governments, international organisations, the industrial and building sectors, financial institutions, consultancies, research institutes and NGOs. It was the biggest edition in terms of attendance.

The 2020 edition will build on the successful previous editions. It will include 30 breakout sessions divided into 6 thematic strands:  innovative sustainable energy planning; financing clean urban mobility; financing energy efficiency in public sector; financing home renovation; financing energy efficiency – sources of value; future-proof investments – financing climate adaptation.

The event will include an institutional opening, an opening panel titled Blending public and private funds in Energy Efficiency Investment, a Managenergy Talk, a marketplace with over 15 institutional stands and much more.

The conference will include plenary sessions with high-level representatives from Covenant of Mayors initiative, the investment community, and the European Commission, a showcase of successful projects on:

  • Energy Efficiency Finance – Sources of Value;
  • Future-proof Investments – Financing Climate Adaptation;
  • Financing Clean Urban Mobility;
  • Financing Energy Efficiency in the Public Sector;
  • Financing Home Renovation;
  • Innovative Sustainable Energy Planning.

The conference will bring together cities, industry and financial institutions to exchange on good practices and successful solutions to common challenges.
