Energy efficient cities
Type of Event:

Energy efficiency is a top political priority in Europe. Our economy is expected to be low-carbon by 2050. This requires a massive transition. The sense of urgency of this transition is not disputed. But if we are going to realise the targets, how will we do it? Because they are major energy and resource consumers, cities play a key role in creating a more energy efficient society. Local action is needed to prepare cities for this challenge.

The 2013 annual conference of the European Urban Knowledge Network (EUKN) ‘Energy Efficient Cities’ will present the main challenges and opportunities for cities to contribute to the European energy efficiency targets.

The conference will take place in Oradea, Romania, on 6 -7 of November 2013, and will be in English. Simultaneous translation to Romanian will be available during the Plenary Session and one of the workshops.

To participate, please fill in the registration form.

Experts from Europe – policy makers, researchers and practitioners at EU, national and local level – will contribute to a two-day international knowledge festival. Antonio Borghi, an Italian URBACT expert; Elena Dimitrova, an architect and researcher from Sofia University and Alfred Middelkamp from the Municipality of Assen in the Netherlands, are some of the invited speakers.
Through interactive workshops the different aspects of energy efficiency in the built environment will be presented. Topics include energy service companies, social housing, historic buildings, and energy efficiency throughout Europe. On-site visits to two energy efficiency projects in Oradea, and presentations of good practices from all over Europe will give participants a deeper insight into concrete instruments and policies for further strengthening the effectiveness of local energy efficiency actions.

If you need answers on how to make historic buildings energy efficient, how to renovate vast groups of buildings at a low cost or if you just want to take a look into the future of sustainable cities, these are two days you do not want to miss!
