It will be a pleasure to welcome you to Dublin, the capital of the Emerald Isle,in the beautiful springtime for a unique milestone event that has the genuine potential to make a definitive contribution to the direction that our global society will take in the foreseeable future.

The International Water Association (IWA) is a professional membership association of leading water professional with over 10,000 members in 130 countries. Recognising the importance interlinked importance of water, climate and energy IWA’s Water, Climate and Energy (WCE) programme addresses both the adaptation and the mitigation aspects of climate change and water. It is at the forefront in raising awareness of the critical WCE linkages within the water sector and advocating at the United Nations COP series focussed on the urban water industry in both developed and developing countries.

The IWA together with Engineers Ireland and Dublin City Council is proud to offer an outstanding congress programme that will allow you to explore current and future WCE challenges from both a sectoral and holistic perspective. The Dublin 2012 Congress will crystallize and build on the outputs of preceeding conferences and workshops that have focussed on mitigation or adaptation and progress debate towards a truly integrated discussion.

Now for the first time this inaugural congress event in Dublin in 2012 will bring together leaders from across the world and from many perspectives to show case their work as leading edge researchers, consultants, practitioners, industrialists, manufacturers and decision makers that span the complete spectrum of the WCE challenge.

The congress is dedicated to finding sustainable, practical and cost effective policies with extreme weather conditions and water/energy scarcity issues addressed jointly in search of the most favourable long term balanced solution both at local and at global level.

Dublin is a city rich in culture, history and folklore and it has a well deserved reputation as one of the liveliest cities in Europe. It has a good mixture of traditional music and food alongside a growing number of ethnic communities. It is famous for its Guinness, literature and gaelic sports and it is renowned as a city for simply relaxing and having the “craic”.

On behalf of the organising committee, I extend a very warm invitation to you to join us in May 2012 at the brand new Convention Centre Dublin for a landmark congress. I am absolutely confident that you will experience exchanges and networking that will present a unique insight into the ongoing WCE debate and will profoundly impact on the way we approach the WCE challenge.
