Germany – World Champion of Energy Efficiency?

National workshop within the EU project "ODYSSEE-MURE“

Monday, 11 June 2018, 9.00 – 13.00 h (preceeded by a press conference in German 8.30)  Berlin, die Kalkscheune

Arranged by the EU-funded Horizon 2020 project ODYSSEE-MURE in cooperation with DENEFF and eceee.

The new German coalition government has announced “We will make Germany the most energy efficient economy of the world”. But which country is in pole position currently – how is lagging behind - and why? What are drivers or barriers to success? What can be learnt from each other to achieve higher improvements rates and thus achieve the national and international energy and climate targets?

The EU project “ODYSSEE-MURE” has developed a toolkit allowing to rank energy efficiency improvements in the EU member states and also provides in-depth data on key indicators and national policies. Besides International Efficiency Scorecard is another ranking of the world’s largest economy done by the US based think tank ACEEE.

Aim of the workshop was to discuss with national policy experts and participants from the ODYSSEE-MURE team methodologies and ways forward regarding policy approaches such as

  • the German National Action Plan of Energy Efficiency (NAPE)
  • Danish experiences with Carbon Taxes and Energy Efficiency Obligation
  • Irish Tax Incentives for the industry sector (accelerated capital allowances)

The ODYSSEE-MURE project is co-ordinated by the French Energy and Environment Agency ADEME with the technical co-ordination by Enerdata/France and Fraunhofer ISI/Germany. It is supported by the H2020 programme of the European Commission and is part of the activity of the EnR Club of national energy agencies.

The workshop was free of charge. Registration was required. Please register with summerstudy@eceee.org and state "World Champion Workshop 11 June" in the email subject field.

About ODYSSEE-MURE

The ODYSSEE-MURE project is co-ordinated by the French Energy and Environment Agency ADEME with the technical co-ordination by Enerdata (France) and Fraunhofer ISI (Germany). It is supported by the H2020 programme of the European Commission and is part of the activity of the EnR Club of national energy agencies.

The project relies on two complementary internet databases, that are regularly updated by the network of national teams (once to twice a year):

  • ODYSSEE, contains detailed energy efficiency and CO2-indicators with data on energy consumption, their drivers (activity indicators) and their related CO2-emissions.
  • MURE, contains a description, with their impact evaluation whenever available, of all energy efficiency measures implemented at EU or national level.

The workshop is free of charge. Registration is required. Please register with summerstudy@eceee.org and state "World Champion Workshop 11 June" in the email subject field.
