Marlene Arens is Senior Manager Associations at Heidelberg Materials. Prior to this role she worked for more than 10 years in research and academia on industry transition. She holds a PhD from Utrecht University in Energy and Resources and a degree in mechanical engineering. 

Sonja Arnold-Keifer is working as a researcher in the Energy Efficiency business unit at Fraunhofer ISI since June 2021. Her research and work includes the decarbonization of industrial processes and the calculation of energy end-use balances. 

Robin Barkhausen (panel leader and presenter) works as a researcher at the Competence Center Energy Technologies and Energy Systems of the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI since February 2021. He is also doing his doctorate at the Technical University of Darmstadt. 
His research areas include the qualitative and quantitative assessment of technologies for improving energy efficiency in households, trade and industry, as well as the development of studies on the ecodesign of products with a focus on circular economy aspects. 

Bellinda Bartolucci joined ClientEarth in June 2020 as a European Environmental Lawyer based in Berlin. Her work focuses on the phase-out of coal on a European level. 
Before joining ClientEarth, Bellinda worked for the Human Rights Organization PRO ASYL in Germany leading its Legal Policy Department where she focused mainly on advocacy and strategic litigation on a national and European level. Previously, she gained also experiences in the public sector by working as a journalist. 
Bellinda is a fully qualified German lawyer specialized in environmental law and trained inter alia by the Federal Ministry of the Environment of Germany and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN. 

An Beazar (panel leader and presenter) holds a M.Sc. in Engineering Physics (Ghent University, 2004). She always had a strong ambition to help fight global warming. She has been working as an energy specialist for energy-intensive industry since 2007. In 2010, she founded Enprove, a Climate & Green Tech company.

Nick Bitsios is the Head of Brussels Office for Greek company Mytilineos. As well as being a leading developer of RES and storage projects across the world, Mytilineos is active in the Greek energy market as a producer and supplier of electricity, a gas trader, and also as an energy-intensive consumer. The company operates the only vertically integrated bauxite, alumina and aluminium production facility in Europe. 
Nick works on EU policy, with a key focus on energy markets, climate, and industrial policy. He is also the Chairman of BusinessEurope’s Energy and Climate Working Group. Nick holds an LLB in Law from the University of Bristol and an MSc in Management from Cass Business School.  

Yves Boons is Solution Manager for Technical Insulation for Saint-Gobain in the Benelux. Before he was active within Saint-Gobain in building related solutions with focus on energy efficiency, fire safety and comfort. He holds a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and since 2014 he is a certified TIPCHECK Engineer. 

Didier Bossebouef is a senior economist and policy analyst at Ademe, the French Ecological Transition Agency.

Tatiana Bosteels, is a Senior Sector Economist at the European Investment Bank (EIB). Focused on Energy Transition Programmes. Her role is to provide advice to the Bank’s decision makers on sector policies, and to assess and approve the quality and risks of operations and projects to be financed by the EIB. She advises promoters on project development and is involved in policy formulation to respond to EU priorities. EIB is the lending arm of the European Union and the largest multilateral financial institution in the world. 

Anna Bryngelsson (LL.M.) is a partner at Swedish law firm Mannheimer Swartling. She is specialized in environmental law, assisting clients within a range of different industry sectors in various regulatory processes. From many years of working with the heavy industry and resource extraction/mining in Sweden, she has good insight in the actual application of environmental and climate legislation. One of her areas of expertise is the EU ETS and she represents clients in several cases in national as well as EU court processes. 

Sebastian Busch works at NRW.Energy4Climate as a project manager for the IN4climate.NRW initiative on the industrial energy transition. He previously worked at the European Commission, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis and TU Wien, where he conducted policy and systems analyses in the realm of energy, climate and sustainable development. During his studies at the University of Cologne (diploma) and TU Wien (doctorate) he gained a specialisation in energy and environmental economics. 

Giorgia Caroli is a project Manager at CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency where she works with the European Investment Fund. 

Koen Coppenholle is Chief Executive of the European Cement Association (CEMBUREAU) since 1 July 2012. Before joining CEMBUREAU, Koen was Head of European Affairs for ArcelorMittal in Brussels. Between September 2000 and November 2007, he was Senior Counsel European Affairs with General Electric EMEA in Brussels.  Koen was Senior Associate with the law firm Linklaters De Bandt in Brussels (1995-2000), worked as a “référendaire” in the cabinet of the Dutch Judge P.J.G. Kapteyn at the European Court of Justice from 1992 to 1995 and was teaching European law at the University of Leuven before that period.   

Erwin Cornelis (panel leader and moderator) is a leading expert on voluntary agreements, energy audits and energy data in companies, both large and SMEs and also a leading industrial energy policy expert. He also has a very good understanding on energy efficiency obligations and exchange of excess heat utilization with other sectors and how it compares to deep renovation of buildings.   
He is now working with ECOS in Brussels. Erwin has joined many of eceee’s Summer Studies and served as panel leader in 2015.

Oronzo Daloiso graduated in European Studies with Honours and Distinction at King’s College London and Sciences Po Paris. He also holds a Master in Diplomatic Studies from SIOI and Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Oronzo has over 10 years’ experience in energy and sustainability, having worked in the private sector and currently Project Adviser in the LIFE Clean Energy Transition team at CINEA, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency.

Diedert Debusscher. Diedert’s research and advocacy efforts support the Clean Energy Transition and Green & Healthy Buildings programs at the European Copper Institute (ECI). A believer in the transformational power of organizations, Diedert is committed to connecting technologies, policies and markets. He has been a consultant for over 20 years, working with businesses, industrial associations, universities, and government agencies. Holding an engineer’s degree (MSc in Bioengineering and Industrial Marketing), Diedert loves any chance to connect his work with more people-oriented vocational trainings (in communications and psychology). He is passionate about communication, offers in-company training on interpersonal skills and hosts his own podcast on sustainability.

Anne-Frédérique Demaerel obtained a master’s degree in Bio-Engineering in Chemistry at KU Leuven (Belgium) in 2005.   She completed her academic career with an international master degree in Management.  Anne-Frédérique started her professional career in the chemical industry within the Large Industries business unit of Air Liquide Benelux, where she gained experience in both operational and commercial roles. She joined the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in 2017 as Business Development Manager. Today she takes up the role of Program Manager Industrial Transition, enabling the transition toward a climate neutral port.

Bettina Dorendorf is a senior sustainability and sustainable finance manager at KfW in the business division SME Bank and Private Clients. She has a professional background in corporate finance and  securitization and started working at KfW in 2005. She has been seconded to the German Finance Ministry during the financial crisis to support with her experience in structured finance and securitisation  as well as to the European Commission DG Energy as national expert in 2014/2015 to support the creation of the Energy Efficiency Financial Institutions Group (EEFIG.eu). 
In her current position, she covers a broad spectrum of sustainability related topics with relevance for her business division, inter alia in relation to the EU Taxonomy and circular economy. 

Ton van Dril has an engineering and economic background, and almost thirty years of experience in energy and climate policy research. 
For ECN (currently TNO) he was lead analist of many Dutch energy policy evaluations. He initiated MIDDEN, a comprehensive and detailed inventory of decarbonization options for the Dutch heavy industry on site level. Recently he has started an initiative on mapping circularity potentials for PBL, the Dutch environmental assessment agency. 

Christiane Egger is Deputy General Manager of the OÖ Energiesparverband, the energy agency of Upper Austria, and Manager Cleantech-Cluster Energy, a network of 250 companies. She is the director of the World Sustainable Energy Days conference and Vice-President of FEDARENE , the European network of regional energy and environment agencies. She is on the management board of the Austrian R&D platform for the decarbonisation of industry (NEFI) and leads the "energy transition leaders initiative", in which industrial companies develop and implement climate neutrality action plans. She holds a law degree and a post-graduate degree in environmental engineering. 

Florie Gonsolin, a French national, joined Cefic in January 2017 as a Climate Change and Energy Manager and successively, as Director Climate Change Transformation. She manages the Climate Ambition and Industrial Transformation Issue Team and coordinates Cefic’s iC2050 project on modelling pathways to a climate-neutral EU chemical industry. 
Prior to joining Cefic, Florie worked for the transport fuels sector focusing on climate and energy policy. She also gained experience in the European Parliament, working for two MEPs. 
Florie is graduated International politics, law and economics (specialised in European politics) as well as business administration. 

Sophie Gorlé obtained her Master of Science in de Ingenieurswetenschappen, Energie at KU Leuven. She works at project Lead on viewpoint (industry decarbonisation) since March 2022.

Andreas Gürtler is the Foundation Director of the EiiF. Before Andreas established non-profit initiatives of various kinds and worked as editor-in-chief for international news agencies. He studied in Germany at the Faculties of Philology in Münster and Freiburg and passed his Second State Examination in Berlin. 

Ola Hansén is Public Affairs Director at H2 Green Steel. His focus is on policy files on the EU-level, especially files within the Green Deal. H2 Green Steel is pushing for policy developments that creates a level playing field for new decarbonizing technologies and promotes the commercialization of innovation. Ola has more than 20 years of experience in climate and energy policy and climate investments. He has had expert and/or management roles at governmental agencies, private sector (e.g. PwC), research institute(IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute) and civil society (WWF). 

Michelle Houngbe graduated from ENSIATE (Engineering school applied to heat, energy and environment) as an eco-energy engineer in 2009. Then, she has worked for 7 years in french local authorities in waste management and recycling. In 2017, she obtained her specialized master’s degree in eco-engineering of sustainable development and in march 2021, she graduated with a PhD in industrial engineering and computer engineering at the National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse. Since december 2021, she has worked at ADEME (the French Agency for Ecological Transition) in the industry department where her fields of study deals with the decarbonization of chemical industries. 

Marit van Hout is working as a researcher at the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) in the Hague. From 2012 up to 2018, she was a researcher at the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN), that is currently TNO. She has 10 years experience in the field of energy and energy markets from various national and EU research projects on (modelling) electricity and gas markets. At the moment, the majority of her work involves assessments and modelling of energy and emissions of the Dutch industry and horticultural sectors. The annaul Dutch Climate and Energy Outlook (KEV), is one of the main projects she works on. She is an active board member of the Benelux Association for Energy Economics (BAEE) organizing seminars, webinars and workshops.  

Wim Jakobs is one of the 3 founders & CEO from Zero friction. His background is 20+ years in software and energy market combined. Together the owners share over 30 years of experience in energy billing and customer interaction software for the energy market. Wimäs office is situated in the beautiful Gent, where he also lives. Every day they work hard to maximally support the heat transition with their scalable SaaS platform with focus for a more efficient billing and to bring more transparency to and more control for the end consumer. 

Dusan Jakovljevic (panel leader)is a co-Founder and Policy Director of Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes (EEIP), a Brussels-based industrial energy efficiency platform with over 140k members. Dusan is an expert in European energy transition, manufacturing industries and sustainability related financing. For over 20 years he has been involved in EU regulatory and technical work on sustainable heat policy, energy management systems, electrification, critical infrastructure, industrial digitalisation and financing energy efficiency. 

Andreas Johansson (LL.M.) is a partner at the Brussels office of the law firm Mannheimer Swartling. He is specialized in competition law, state aid, trade defence and general EU law, assisting clients in various industry sectors. He regularly acts before the EU courts, including on several cases concerning the EU ETS and the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) in recent years. He has co-authored the article Legitimacy and Consistency of Free Allocation in the EU ETS: The Role of Substitutes in Product Benchmarks, in volume 31 of the European Energy and Environmental Law Review, which forms the basis for the presentation at the conference. 

Guido Lena (Italian–1965) has been Director for Environmental Affairs in UEAPME from 1999 till 2008, when he was appointed Director for Sustainable Development, extending his competences to energy and climate change.His experience  covers  the  challenges  and  the  opportunities  of  sustainability inSMEs. He’s been a member of several consultative committees and high level groups set up by the EU Commissionand worked as an expert for the EESC. He’s currently a member of the  European  Circular  Economy  Platform Coordination Group. Due to the name change of his organisation, he’s beenDirector for Sustainable Development inSMEunitedsince November 2018.

Juan Fernando López Hernández is an economist specialised in the EU Emission Trading System (ETS). He joined the European Roundtable on Climate Change & Sustainable Transition (ERCST) – a think tank - as Manager & Senior Policy Analyst in January 2022. Prior to ERCST, Juan Fernando has worked as an Adviser in Climate Change & Energy at the European Industrial Minerals Association (IMA-Europe).  He holds a University Degree in Economics and a Masters Degree in European Studies from the University of Sevilla. In 2017 he obtained a Masters Degree in Economics of the EU at the College of Europe in Bruges, with a specialisation in European Public Policy Analysis. In 2019, he was invited by the European University Institute to present his research on “The impact of political announcements on the EU ETS”, at the Florence School of Regulation (FSR) Climate Annual Conference. 

Elliot Mari graduated with a Master of Engineering Science from the Ecole Centrale de Nantes in France and with a Master of Sustainable Energy from the University of Queensland in Australia where he specialised in energy and climate-related issues across different disciplines. As part of the Industry Department of ADEME (French Agency for Ecological Transition), he develops sectoral and technological analysis to produce long-term decarbonisation scenarios for the French heavy industries. More specifically, Elliot leads the work on cement, steel and aluminium. 

Petri Mast is VP for Technology and Innovation with Sibelco. From education a physical chemist who has worked for more than 20 years in a Global Chemical Company, a producer of synthetic resins for paints and coatings. Now working more than 10 years for a Global Industrial Minerals Company. 

Simon Minett (panel leader) is the Executive Director and co-founder of Challoch Energy, a Belgian-based consultancy focused on energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable energy transition. More than 30 years ago, Simon started at the UK ETSU, setting up their energy consulting business before relocating to Belgium to run the European CHP Association, COGEN Europe. Simon was also co-founder of Delta Energy and Environment in the UK. 

Lisa Neusel (panel leader) is working as a researcher in the Energy Efficiency business unit at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI since 2019. Her research areas include the analysis of energy efficiency potentials and decarbonisation strategies in industry as well as the evaluation of efficiency-related policy measures. 

Lars J. Nilsson is a Professor of Environmental and Energy Systems Studies and Head of the Department of Technology and Society at Lund University (Sweden). His research focuses on industrial decarbonisation and co-evolution with energy system transitions in the perspective of circular economy, electrification, industrial developmentand climate policy strategies. Lars was Coordinating Lead Author for the WG III contribution to the IPCC AR6 (chapter 11 on Industry) and was Lead Author for the IPCC Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation.

Thomas Nowak represents the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) as Secretary General in Brussels. His main responsibilities are the representation of the industry at the European institutions, networking with other stakeholders in the field of heating and cooling as well as the management of the association and its future development.  

Robert Nuij works for the European Commission, Directorate-General for Energy, as deputy Head of Unit for energy efficiency policy and financing. In this capacity, he has joint responsibility for implementing the Energy Efficiency Directive and the Energy Efficiency First principle, and for scaling up financial support for energy efficiency measures across the EU.
Mr. Nuij is a Dutch national and holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Design Engineering from the Delft University of Technology. 

Alex Rathmell is Managing Director, Consultancy, at EP Group.  Alex has been an entrepreneur in the clean energy sector for around 15 years.  Since 2019 he has been leading the development and rollout of ESCO-in-a-box, a project development, finance and contracting system for business energy efficiency projects that is helping cities and regions engage the private sector in the transition to net zero.  Alex leads EP’s consultancy team, providing energy strategy, technical and finance advisory services to corporate organisations, financial institutions, EU and national governments.  Alex holds a degree in electrical engineering from Imperial College London and an MBA from Ashridge Business School, and is a Chartered Engineer.  

Imogen Rattle is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Leeds, UK. Her work examines the politics and policy of industrial decarbonisation, and broader issues of place-based engagement with the low carbon transition.  Through UKERC (the UK Energy Research Centre), she is working on a project examining the challenges of decarbonising dispersed industrial sites. Through IDRIC (the Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre) she is working on an international review of best practice in decarbonising industrial clusters. Her previous experience includes roles at the UK department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy and the English Environment Agency. 

Stefan Rechinger is Senior Manager Technical Services for Central and South West Europe of ROCKWOOL Technical Insulation. He studied civil engineering with a focus on building physics. Since 2011, he has being carrying out TIPCHECKs for the EiiF as Senior TIPCHECK Engineer and is a level III certified FROSIO Insulation Inspector. 

Ivana Rogulj (panel leader) is a Senior Energy Expert at the Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy (IEECP). She has more than 15 years of experience in energy efficiency, combining energy service company, non-governmental association and a think tank. She (co)authored policy analysis and recommendations, is experienced in energy planning and was participating multiple projects in different consumption sectors, with more focus on businesses lately. Her background is MSc in Power Engineering, specialization in Environmental Engineering and an MBA, CMVP. She is a PhD candidate in Economics and an external lecturer on the ETS. In IEECP, she coordinates & works on projects with the focus on small and medium enterprises, audits, business models and policies. Her specific interest are external benefits of energy efficiency projects. Ivana is a member of the Covenant of Companies Steering Committee.  

Clemens Schneider is a Senior Researcher at the Wuppertal Institute. His field of work is system analysis and modellingin the context of energy and environmental research. He develops mid- and long term energy and greenhouse gas emission scenarios as well as roadmaps on different regional levels and for individual sectors of heavy industry. Another field of work is the assessment of Low Carbon technologies in the heavy industry sectors. He developed several energy system simulation models, e.g. the bottom-up multi-level energy system model WISEE, which has been used at the level of an industrial cluster (Port of Rotterdam), at the regional, national as well as EU level. 
Clemens studied political science, economic policy and public law at the University of Münster. 

Maxime Snick is one of the co-founders and CEO of Octave – a cleantech startup from Belgium specializing in second-life battery energy storage. In the past year, Octave has raised €2M and sold more than 3MWh of battery capacity. Prior to co-founding Octave, Maxime graduated from KU Leuven as a chemical engineer and worked several years in the energy industry. His main assignment was at EPEX SPOT (Europe’s leading power exchange based in Paris) where he was responsible for managing several large, multi-stakeholder European market coupling projects and the launch of new innovative products such as coupled intraday auctions and a local flexibility market. 

Andrea Voigts experience in the heating and cooling industry spans over two decades. In 2021, she joined Danfoss Climate Solutions as Head of Global Public Affairs and Member of the Strategy & Sustainability Leadership Team. Danfoss is a global technology leader engineering solutions that improve productivity, boost energy efficiency and enable decarbonisation to accelerate the green transition. Prior to Danfoss, for the past 12 years, she was leading the European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE), a Brussels based industry association advocating for sustainable heating and cooling technologies in buildings, industry and the cold chain at EU and at global level. Previous assignments included roles in sales, marketing and communication. 

Dr. Michael Walther is team leader of the NRW.Energy4Climate’s industry department, working on a wide range of topics related to the industry transition towards climate neutrality (incl. the initiative IN4climate.NRW). Since late 2018, Michael coordinated the build-up, governance and working processes of IN4climate.NRW the state-funded think tank and working platform on industry transition for industry, research and politics. 
Michael studied Business and Economics and worked at the department for sustainability management, University of Kassel for 15 years, researching and teaching in the field of corporate environmental and sustainability management.
