Abstract

The presentation will show the significant role that energy efficiency does play within production sites on the basis of a real business case. Based on the experiences with providing services for the Dutch company FrieslandCampina, it will be illustrated where the highest efficiency potentials could be found and how energy savings could be guaranteed in advance. In this context, it will be explained in more detail how important a comprehensive monitoring is for a successful operation and realization. Energy efficiency makes a positive contribution to energy balances – not only in theory, but definitely in practice.

Background information: Within the scope of FrieslandCampina’s strategic program to reduce energy costs, the company entered a strategic partnership with Bilfinger Efficiency and started a so-called performance contracting at the end of 2015. This covers the analysis and optimization of the utilities (energy and water) on FrieslandCampina’s production sites. On the basis of a performance contracting model, significant energy savings have been achieved since the beginning of the project.

After an analysis and identification of the efficiency potentials, various efficiency measures have been agreed together with the customer. First measures have been implemented in the area of steam, cooling and compressed air technology, where there are efficiency potentials of up to 50 percent. Similar savings potentials are anticipated in the areas of ventilation technology and heat recovery as well as in water and wastewater technology, among others. In addition to the development and implementation of efficiency measures, the energy service provider Bilfinger Efficiency is also responsible for the financing of the measures and the monitoring of the achieved savings.
