Abstract
The GreenLight Programme is a recent initiative of the European Commission to encourage non-residential electricity consumers to commit themselves to adopt energy-efficient lighting solutions in their existing and new facilities wherever it is profitable, and lighting quality is maintained or improved.
Participants are invited to sign a registration form stating that they agree to undertake all the relevant lighting upgrades within 5 years. In return for their commitment, they benefit from technical support as well as broad public recognition.
After one year of programme operation, the present paper reports that the GreenLight guidelines and tools have matured, that a new European-level co-operative structure has been established to promote and sustain GreenLight, that a list of 18 Partners and 28 Endorsers has been constituted, and finally, that reinforced marketing actions have been suggested for the future, to ensure that GreenLight meets its objectives.
