Abstract
California, USA has been at the forefront of many building energy efficiency code advancements since its inception in 1978, including having the first solar photovoltaic code requirement for residential new construction in the US. Because of these advancements, energy code compliance has become the cornerstone of effective and sustainable policies and regulations.
Join us as we explore how California has utilized innovative strategies to move a historically slow adapting building industry up to speed with fast-moving energy and environmental policies to ensure sustainable action. This session includes a brief overview of California’s history regarding their energy and environmental goals. These goals are put into action via legislation; Regulation by the California Public Utilities Commission; Enforcement by the local authority having jurisdiction; and coordinated via a Statewide Codes & Standards program.
We will share how coordination, under the purview of the California Statewide Codes & Standards programs, has revolutionized collaboration efforts to support California’s environmental and energy goals utilizing a multi prong approach through a series of programs that provide tools, resources, training, communication forums, research and supporting the public rulemaking process.
