Energy efficiency first, but what next?

The 2018 IPCC report has given the Paris agreement and new sense of urgency. We are not on track to meet the Paris agreement goal of keeping the increase in global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. And we are even further away from the aim to limit the increase to 1.5°C. At the same time, the IEA has shown that energy efficiency improvements are slowing down at a time when we need to do much more.

But efficiency alone is not enough; we also need to look beyond efficiency improvements towards how we can reduce absolute energy consumption.

The summer study moves the frontiers of energy policy and established practices, and looks at what is really needed to break the curves of increasing energy demand and rising temperatures.

A vibrant setting

Fuelled by 400 participants who spend five full days networking and discussing, eceee’s biennial Summer Study has grown into the most important energy efficiency event in Europe. It is here the trends of future policies can be spotted first.

The Summer Studies are the backbone of eceee's ambition to deliver comprehensive evidence-based information on energy efficiency. They offer a mix of peer-reviewed quality paper presentations, informal sessions, inspiring keynotes and just plain round-the-clock networking.

Bring family or a friend to the venue

eceee rents a complete venue for the event and all participants typically stay on site for the duration of the conference. Some participants bring family or friends who stay on site as well, which adds to the informal, but highly creative, atmosphere.

Will you contribute?

These are exciting times! You can take part in defining how to implement energy efficiency in the context of the Paris climate agreement and the EU’s 2030 and 2050 energy and climate policy agenda.
