In the framework of the European Forum for Science and Industry, the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) is hosting a Round Table on Scientific Support to Energy Efficient Buildings, to be held in Brussels on 29 November 2013.

Restoring our competitiveness, ensuring economic growth and job creation is critical to re-launching the European economy and recovering from the current crisis. This also means exploiting fully the potential of sectors balancing sustainability and competitiveness, such as the building sector.

Due to the potential of this sector to react rapidly, improving building efficiency can bring immediate and tangible benefits to both businesses as well as domestic users in decreasing the energy consumption, therefore reducing the electricity bills, especially in the case of energy intensive industries. Moreover, with the adoption of efficiency measures in buildings, markets for new technologies and advanced materials are also being created and science has a crucial role in this respect.

Research and innovation in the field of energy efficient buildings requires efforts by different stakeholders at different level, therefore involving all actors is essential.

On the occasion of launching the JRC initiative on scientific support to EU growth and jobs in March this year, we had the chance to bring together different stakeholders and discuss where scientific support is needed for efficient buildings, vehicles and equipment. The aim of this Round Table is to deepen the dialogue on efficient buildings, discuss financial aspects of it and examine the link between technology, policy and behaviour.

We are pleased to invite you to participate in this Round Table discussion on the 29th November in the Berlaymont building (200 Rue de la Loi, 1049-Brussels), the headquarters of the European Commission.
